Our Story
The story of Resurrection Church is just beginning, and like the Gospel of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, we too have good news to proclaim. In February 2016 a group of people began to follow God’s call to plant a new church that would give a fresh expression to vintage Christianity. In March of that year, that group began to come together to vision what a new Episcopal church in Hermitage might look like. They started to meet, pray, worship, fellowship and to vision how God was calling them to plant a new church. Over the last year we have continued to build our team, learn more about our community, began work on renovating Resurrection’s worship site and to follow where God is leading us as we worship together and continue to build a community where all people can find belonging.

On September 9th, 2018 at 10:00 AM, we had our official Grand Opening! We are excited to see where God will lead us next in our journey to plant a new church in Hermitage.
Why Resurrection?
One of the questions we get often is-why did you name your new church “Resurrection Church.” Great question! When we look at the story of Jesus the main reason why his story is good news is because of the resurrection. Many people in this life have taught good lessons. Others have given their lives for what they believe. But it is only in the story of Jesus that we find God coming into our world, living as we lived, giving his life for us and then being raised so that the bonds of sin and death could be broken. It is because of the resurrection that our lives can be transformed into the dream that God has for us and for the world. The resurrection of Jesus Christ gives us the hope of eternal life and the reality of transformed life here and now. From the beginning of our story, we knew that we wanted this church to be a community of people that makes a difference in this world. A church where people can find hope and meaning. We believe that just as the resurrection brings transformation and life to our lives and to the world, the church that God is calling us to plant will be a church that will transform this community of Hermitage into the dream that God has for this world. Meaning, hope and transformation. Those words define the resurrection of Jesus and they give life to the church we are creating.

What does it mean to be Episcopalian?
The name of our church tells you who we are “Resurrection Church-An Episcopal Congregation.” As an Episcopal church, we are a community of people that finds meaning and importance in many of the ancient practices of the church. Often you will hear Episcopalians says that we “believe what we pray.” We are a church rooted in prayer, believing that prayer is the foundation of our lives. We also are a church that finds God’s grace through the sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist and finds our story in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament. As a new Episcopal church you will see a fresh expression of vintage Christianity.
We also know that everybody comes from different backgrounds with different experiences. We invite you to bring your questions and your doubts. We don’t ask you to check your mind at the door. Come as you are and we will journey together through this life of faith.
Finally, the Episcopal Church is rooted in the love of God through Jesus Christ. We believe that every person is created in the image of God and is loved by God as you are. For many years, the slogan of the Episcopal Church has been “The Episcopal Church Welcomes You.” At Resurrection Church, ALL people are welcome to be part of this new community.
